Fort Gratiot
Michigan’s First Light: Fort Gratiot Light, Port Huron
Located at the southern base of Lake Huron and the mouth of the St. Clair River, the original light was built in 1825 but collapsed in a storm in 1828. The current light was built in 1829, making it Michigan’s first lighthouse. The light stands at 82 feet high. The light is still operational today and is the oldest active light still in service.
