Grand Traverse Lighthouse
Leelanuau Township
Sandwiched between Lake Michigan and the Grand Traverse Bay on the north end of the Leelanau Peninsula, stands the Grand Traverse Lighthouse, guiding many ships to safety for over 100 years. Built in 1858, it stayed in service until 1972 when it was automated. This beautiful lighthouse stands at 39 feet tall. Today the lighthouse is located in the Leelanau State Park, 8 miles north of the town of Northport. The inside of the lighthouse is available for tours (facemask required) but the tower climb is closed due to the Corona Virus this year (2020). Interesting note, the area around the lighthouse is a drone-free zone.
